This artwork depicts a group of people (Bama Wirribe) sitting on the ground. The horseshoe shapes are used in traditional Bandjin art to depict people.
The cross-hatch designs represent the small woven baskets (Mindi) which the Bandjin people made from fish tail lawyer cane. The Bandjin people are the traditional owners of Hinchinbrook Island, the largest island on the Great Barrier Reef.
